Overdue Photos

Today, I am finishing up my revised proposal, and then we are to watch some old SARP presentations and critique them. We may also be Skyping with Jimmy this afternoon, but that is still TBD.

Here are some more, long-overdue photos!

One of the two Shuttle Carriers. They gutted out most of the inside of the plane in order to reduce the payload when the shuttle is aboard.

This is SOFIA (Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy). She carries a large telescope which is used in flight to study space. The hump in the back is where it's located; the door slides open during flight. All of these flights occur during the night.

We each got a SOFIA poster! :)

Most of my group (Bad News Barrys--the air quality group) hanging out in the P-3 before starting instrument calibrations.

Pictures from my first flight on Tuesday afternoon: flight crew in the cockpit, starting our first missed approach at San Bernardino, and a good view of the burnt orange haze over the LA basin.

Pictures from my second flight Wednesday morning: flying out to Delano to do lines over the vineyards for the land group, one of the iPads in the cockpit showing the flight lines over the vineyards (in blue), the AVOCET instrument (measures CO2; I sat here for the second half of the flight).

Hope that is enough of a picture overload for you all! I will most likely post some more later. I don't have many science-y ones from Irvine because we just sit and work on our computers all day. :p
